Importance of Clean Air (Health Club Access)

Thank you for joining us! Clean air is vital. It has become increasingly important for us to protect our lungs as we go about our daily activities. We continue on our health journey today as we look at the importance of clean air. Air is necessary for our survival and we need to ensure that we breathe in clean air to protect our lungs and heart and preserve our health.

Importance of Clean Air for Our Lungs and Heart

Clean air is air that is safe to breathe because there are no harmful levels of pollutants in it. If we want to preserve our health, then we have to avoid air with dirt and harmful chemicals. Every cell in our body needs oxygen to survive. When our lungs breathe in air, oxygen is moved into the bloodstream and carried throughout the body. Our body uses this oxygen and then exchanges it for a waste gas known as carbon dioxide. Our lungs play a vital role in our respiratory system. Our respiratory system also brings air to the right temperature before transporting it to our bloodstream and ensures that air is given the appropriate amount of moisture. Our heart is also very important as it pumps blood throughout our body. The cleaner air is, the more we can protect our lungs and heart from distress and disease. According to the American Heart Association research shows that air pollution lowers the levels of high-density lipoprotein or good cholesterol which increases the risk of heart disease. Polluted air can also block our airways and may cause shortness of breath and further deterioration of our lungs if prolonged.

A Growing Demand

There is a growing demand for clean air as air pollution continues around the world. Most urban areas tend to have buildings in close proximity to each other that are close to the road where there is much carbon monoxide. Where there is poor ventilation this dangerous hazard is compounded even further. The importance of clean air is even more elevated for persons living in these areas or children, or persons with asthma, diabetes or lung disease. Asthma is a common chronic disease that causes inflammation of the airways and lungs. The atmosphere for these persons need to be as clean as possible to reduce asthma attacks. However, healthy people can still develop conditions such as lung and heart disease from air pollution and so there is a need to be vigilant and preserve our health whether we we live in urban areas or not and whether we have lung and heart conditions or not. There is also a growing demand for persons with pets who need to ensure that pets as well as their surroundings are clean.

Importance of Clean Air for Life

Clean air saves lives. According to the World Health Organisation 3.8 million premature deaths occur annually from diseases such as lung cancer, strokes, heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which are attributed to exposure of air pollution in the home. In the home harmful chemicals are emitted from dust, moulds and allergens, paint, cooking oils, printers and building materials. Air pollution should not be overlooked as polluted air has dangerous consequences on our health. We cannot over emphasize the importance of clean air. Whether you live in urban communities or rural areas there is still a need for the air in our surroundings to be as clean as is possible.

Action Needed Due to the Importance of Clean Air

We know that we need air to breathe and we also know that we need air to be as clean as is possible to preserve our lungs and heart. But what can we do to improve the quality of the air we breathe? As we look at the importance of clean air how can we ensure that we breathe in more and more clean air each day?

Well, we can start by cleaning our environment as much as we can. This includes removing moulds and dust mites and other form of particles that will emit bacteria into the atmosphere and deteriorate our breathing. This is crucial because we spend a number of hours indoors whether it is to sleep at night or to relax during the day or to work from home. We can also benefit from cleaner air if we rise early in the morning and spend some time inhaling fresh air before it becomes polluted. This would be a very good treat to revitalize our lungs and our heart. We encourage every one to do this as often as you can. This not only benefits your heart and lungs but it improves your mood as well. Take some deep breaths as you inhale and exhale and benefit from the fresh air that nature has to offer.

Furthermore, there are some plants that can give our lungs a boost with oxygen. The Lung Health Institute recommends these plants as they provide increased levels of oxygen in the home. These plants include: the Areca Palm, Snake Plant, Money Plant, Gerbera Daisy and Chinese Evergreens. If you prefer a natural remedy you can choose from any of these 5 to improve the health of your lungs and heart. This is particularly important if you have to travel outside each day and you are exposed to high levels of nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide or sulfur dioxide

There is also the common solution of using a an air purifier in the home. If you prefer to have this useful tool then it can go a far way as well to improving the quality of air that you breathe.

Recharge with Cleaner Air

We need clean air in order to survive. Clean air reduces the risk of lung disease and heart disease and helps our respiratory system to function properly. Let’s recharge and choose to breathe in cleaner air whether it means cleaning our environment, getting up early to inhale air that is less polluted by carbon monoxide or avoiding areas with massive air pollution.
