Importance of Clean Air for Our Lungs and Heart

Clean air is air that is safe to breathe because there are no harmful levels of pollutants in it. If we want to preserve our health, then we have to avoid air with dirt and harmful chemicals. Every cell in our body needs oxygen to survive. When our lungs breathe in air, oxygen is moved into the bloodstream and carried throughout the body. Our body uses this oxygen and then exchanges it for a waste gas known as carbon dioxide.Our lungs play a vital role in our respiratory system. Our respiratory system also brings air to the right temperature before transporting it to our bloodstream and ensures that air is given the appropriate amount of moisture. Our heart is also very important as it pumps blood throughout our body. The cleaner air is, the more we can protect our lungs and heart from distress and disease. According to the American Heart Association research shows that air pollution lowers the levels of high-density lipoprotein or good cholesterol which increases the risk of heart disease. Polluted air can also block our airways and may cause shortness of breath and further deterioration of our lungs if prolonged.

A Growing Demand

There is a growing demand for clean air as air pollution continues around the world. Most urban areas tend to have buildings in close proximity to each other that are close to the road where there is much carbon monoxide. Where there is poor ventilation this dangerous hazard is compounded even further. The importance of clean air is even more elevated for persons living in these areas or children, or persons with asthma, diabetes or lung disease. Asthma is a common chronic disease that causes inflammation of the airways and lungs. The atmosphere for these persons need to be as clean as possible to reduce asthma attacks. Air pollution should not be overlooked as polluted air has dangerous consequences on our health. We cannot over emphasize the importance of clean air. Whether you live in urban communities or rural areas there is still a need for the air in our surroundings to be as clean as is possible.

We know that we need air to breathe and we also know that we need air to be as clean as is possible to preserve our lungs and heart. But what can we do to improve the quality of the air we breathe? As we look at the importance of clean air how can we ensure that we breathe in more and more clean air each day?

Well, we can start by cleaning our environment as much as we can. This includes removing moulds and dust mites and other form of particles that will emit bacteria into the atmosphere and deteriorate our breathing. This is crucial because we spend a number of hours indoors whether it is to sleep at night or to relax during the day or to work from home. We can also benefit from cleaner air if we rise early in the morning and spend some time inhaling fresh air before it becomes polluted. This would be a very good treat to revitalize our lungs and our heart. We encourage every one to do this as often as you can. This not only benefits your heart and lungs but it improves your mood as well. Take some deep breaths as you inhale and exhale and benefit from the fresh air that nature has to offer.
